Couples/Thruples Therapy

overview

There can be all sorts of reasons that people become unhappy in their relationship with their partner(s). Whatever these are, feelings of hurt, anger, resentment, sadness or hopelessness have usually reached a level such that it can feel there is no way forward.

This is when the support of a professional can be helpful in disentangling how you have got to where you are, identifying what is keeping the problem(s) going and then working out a way forward, which may or may not involve staying together.

An important task in this process can involve understanding how patterns within your families of origin have informed each partner’s expectations around relationships and how these play out in the dynamic between you. Restoring open, honest, conscious communication between partners is also key.

COMMON THEMES

I work with all sexualities, gender identities and relationship configurations and am sex positive, kink aware and trauma informed. Some of the most common themes that come up in couples/thruples therapy are:

·       Desire discrepancy within the relationship

·       Lack of sex and/or intimacy in the relationship

·     Problems caused by psychosexual/sexual function issues

·       Communication problems including arguments, rows and blaming

·       Healing after the disclosure of an affair

·       Opening up relationships and exploring polyamory/consensual non-monogamy

·       Ending relationships and moving forwards after divorce or separation
