cancellations

Counselling/psychotherapy are a bit different to shorter-term therapies accessed on an ad-hoc basis like massage or physio in that you’ll likely be wanting an ongoing, open-ended reservation. I’ll keep your slot open to you as long as you need it with the expectation that it’s used each week. If you choose not to use the slot in a particular week or are unable to attend for whatever reason, the session(s) will still be chargeable, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

holidays

We all need to take holidays and I offer up to four holiday cancellations (or two if you’re working with me fortnightly) in a 12-month period that aren’t charged for but please give me at least seven days’ notice of these. I take four weeks’ holiday a year, not including bank holidays, and will give you at least seven days’ notice of these.

rescheduling sessions

If you wish to reschedule a session and give me sufficient notice I will always endeavour to find you an alternative slot that week. But if I don’t have availability or the slots I have available aren’t convenient for you, the session will still be chargeable.

REDUCING FREQUENCY OF SESSIONS

Initially I ask for a weekly commitment for the first three months. If safe and clinically appropriate to do so, the frequency of sessions can be reduced to fortnightly after three months if and when a fortnightly slot becomes available.

breaks

If you need to take a break from therapy and you wish me to keep your slot open I ask for a retainer fee of 50% of the session rate each week you’re away. Alternatively I can add you to the waiting list on your departure and allocate you a new slot on your return as soon as one becomes available.

TERMINATION

Once the initial assessment has been completed, if you intend on finishing work with me in the first 3 months I ask for at least two sessions' notice and four sessions’ notice thereafter.

You’ll need to be reasonably sure you’re able to commit to regular weekly sessions before embarking on your therapy journey. Most clients find that having clear boundaries around sessions helps them prioritise therapy in their lives and that this consistency helps them get the most from the process and keeps the work safe and containing.
